Welcome to Mrs. Yearous' Classroom
Learning Made Fun
Meet the Teacher
Hello. My name is Bobbie Jo Yearous. I have been teaching 5th grade at St. John Elementary School since 2021. I live in Independence with my husband Rex and four children: Olivia, Abby, Logan, and Thomas.  I graduated from Upper Iowa University in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education K-6 and a Reading Endorsement K-8.  My goal is to install a love for learning to all students.
A Little About 5th Grade....
Classwork and Homework Policy:
Students will have sufficient time in the classroom to complete their classwork. If they do not use this time wisely, the unfinished work will be assigned as homework, which will be due the following day. Please ensure that all homework is returned to school each day in your child’s homework folder. If an assignment is not turned in within 2 weeks of the due date, a zero will be entered in the grade book.
Planners & Homework Communication
Homework Communication: Students will fill in their planners at the end of each day with any homework they need to complete. Before leaving, they will get their planner signed by the teacher, which will serve as communication regarding their homework.
Completion Check: When your child finishes their homework, please initial their planner to confirm completion.
Thank you for your support throughout this school year!
Spelling
Spelling Words: On Monday, your child will receive a new set of spelling words to study throughout the week. By focusing on these words, your child will enhance their spelling, reading, and writing skills. Please ensure that your child practices their spelling words regularly.
Spelling Test: A reminder that we will have a spelling test every Friday. Your support in helping them prepare is greatly appreciated!
